Kakao’s impact commerce program, KakaoMakers, has reached a cumulative gross merchandise value (GMV) of over KRW 700 billion.

This milestone was achieved for the first time in seven months after surpassing KRW 600 billion in August 2021.

Since its launch in February 2016, KakaoMakers has been a pioneer in the manufacturing industry by reducing inventory through a collaborative, made-to-order approach that identifies demand and then produces it.

The service provides production opportunities for makers and creators and opportunities to connect with consumers and has shown solid and sustainable growth.

KakaoMakers has received a steady response from users, with a 99% order success rate.

As a result, the service recorded a GMV of KRW 100 billion in 2019 and KRW 500 billion in 2021.

KakaoMakers has provided production opportunities to more than 5,820 makers and creators, with more than 2.54 million users participating and 23.1 million products sold as of February 2022.

KakaoMakers has introduced new and diverse projects in line with Kakao’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management.

Its latest project, “With the Right and Fair Value,” supports the sale of wasted agricultural products to reduce the inventory burden for producers and environmental costs for the ecosystem.

The cumulative GMV is approximately KRW 17 billion, and more than 3,500 tons of concentrated seafood have been purchased.

KakaoMakers’ commitment to sustainability and ESG management has been recognized.

The company plans to introduce various products that contribute to the sustainability of society and the environment, including those in need, and to cooperate with offline trade shows to support the sales of small and medium-sized enterprises.

KakaoMakers’ continued efforts to spread good environmental and social impact are expected to bring about positive changes in the manufacturing industry.
