BARCELONA, Spain - Kia Corporation has partnered strategically with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. to implement Internet of Things (IoT) solutions in its Platform Beyond Vehicles (PBVs).

This initiative aligns with Kia's Platform Beyond Vehicle strategy to transform PBVs from vehicles into business solutions integrated with digital ecosystems.

Under this agreement, Kia will implement Samsung's SmartThings Pro IoT platform in its PBVs.

The system enables wireless control of connected devices via a plug-and-play service, allowing business customers to manage IoT-enabled appliances by attaching a smart connector without complex installation procedures.

The integration creates automated connectivity between vehicles and business environments, enabling B2B customers to establish business routines that activate based on destinations entered in the PBV's In-Vehicle Infotainment system.

This functionality enables remote management of business operations while in transit.

The system supports multiple operational modes. In the example provided, bakery owners can activate the "Ingredient Purchase Mode" when traveling to wholesale markets, automatically adjusting vehicle refrigeration systems to maintain ingredient freshness during transport.

When returning to their establishment, "Commute Mode" activation allows remote store preparation by powering essential equipment before arrival.

After business hours, "Closing Mode" deactivates devices, implements energy conservation measures, and manages security protocols automatically.

For hospitality businesses, "Unmanned Operation Mode" facilitates remote management of guest services, including check-ins, door access, device control, and climate settings.

Property monitoring capabilities are accessible through the vehicle's infotainment system.

SmartThings Pro employs AI-driven pattern recognition to suggest and optimize automated business routines.

PBV owners can manage these functions through the vehicle's infotainment system or tablet devices.

Kia and Samsung intend to develop industry-specific IoT solutions for PBV business customers. Initial pilot services will target small business owners and self-employed individuals, followed by developing PBV-specific IoT product lines and bundled B2B solutions.

The companies aim to establish new business models and expand services to B2B customers globally, reinforcing Korea's position in smart technology development and Kia's commitment to advanced mobility solutions.
