Las Vegas, NV / Tokyo, Japan - Kirin Holdings (2503.T) announced today that its Electric Salt Spoon has received recognition in two categories at the CES Innovation Awards 2025, marking the company's first-ever CES Innovation Award.

The device, released in May 2024, received accolades in the Digital Health, Accessibility, and Age Tech categories at the world's most prominent technology trade exposition, which received over 3,400 submissions this year.

According to company testing, the Electric Salt Spoon utilizes electrical current technology to enhance the saltiness and umami flavors of low-sodium foods by approximately 1.5 times.

The technology was developed with the Miyashita Laboratory at Meiji University's Department of Frontier Media Science.

The spoon-shaped device, which measures 250mm x 38mm x 25mm and weighs 60g without batteries, operates on a 3V lithium battery and offers four intensity levels.

It is priced at JPY 19,800 ($125).

The product aims to address Japan's ongoing excessive salt intake issue, where daily consumption averages 10.1g among adults aged 20 and over, significantly exceeding the World Health Organization's recommended intake of 5.0g.

Kirin's market research revealed that approximately 60% of individuals on low-sodium diets reported issues with their dietary restrictions, with 80% citing taste dissatisfaction as a primary concern.

"The Electric Salt Spoon was developed with the core philosophy of 'Delicious meals for everyone,' addressing social challenges and meeting the needs of consumers seeking reduced-sodium diets," said Ai Sato from Kirin Holdings' New Business Group, Health Science Division.

The company showcases the product at CES 2025 in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10.

It will debut as an exhibitor at the Venetian Expo's Eureka Park.
