Seoul, South Korea—KT Corp (NYSE: KT) announced on Monday that it is expanding its artificial intelligence-powered spam detection service to multimedia messages (MMS) in collaboration with Samsung Electronics.

According to KT, the service flags suspicious messages with a "suspected malicious message" warning directly on Samsung Android smartphones without requiring additional application installation.

The system uses KT's artificial intelligence to identify potential spam and phishing messages in real time, displaying warnings through Samsung's user interface.

Initially launched for SMS (short message service) in December 2024, the service currently reaches approximately 7 million KT customers across 37 Samsung device models.

KT said its sample analysis of flagged messages confirmed the system's effectiveness.

Ninety-nine percent of identified communications involving gambling, illegal loans, and adult content were classified as malicious spam or advertisements.

The company said the expansion to MMS functionality is scheduled for completion by the end of May.
