Seoul, South Korea - KT Corp announced Monday it has signed a direct Power Purchase Agreement to supply renewable energy to domestic facilities of semiconductor equipment manufacturer Tokyo Electron.

Under the agreement, KT will initially provide 15 megawatts of renewable power to Tokyo Electron Korea's operations, including its Hwaseong office and semiconductor research and development center, beginning in September.

The two companies said they plan to incrementally expand the transaction volume to 50 MW, a capacity projected to cover the total annual power demand of the designated facilities.

The direct PPA system, introduced in South Korea in 2022 to facilitate corporate participation in RE100, allows energy suppliers to procure electricity from renewable generators and sell it directly to corporate consumers, bypassing the public power market.

KT entered the sector after receiving designation as a Renewable Energy Electricity Supplier from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy in September 2024.

KT operates its power supply network alongside its KT-Net Zero platform, which calculates and monitors corporate greenhouse gas emissions.

The company said it intends to use the Tokyo Electron agreement to expand its presence in the private direct PPA market.
