Seoul, South Korea / Santa Clara, CA - LG Electronics and edge AI semiconductor company Ambarella announced on Thursday their collaboration on a new in-cabin driver monitoring system, which is currently in production with a global automotive manufacturer.

The system integrates Ambarella's CV25 AI system-on-chip into LG's Driver Monitoring System, utilizing LG's VisionWare software from its AlphaWare mobility software portfolio.

The CV25 chipset, manufactured using 10-nanometer process technology, enables real-time analysis of high-resolution video from in-vehicle cameras while maintaining high energy efficiency for vehicle integration.

The monitoring system can detect subtle eye and head movements to determine driver distraction or drowsiness.

It functions accurately regardless of the driver's race, gender, or age and maintains effectiveness even when drivers wear sunglasses, hats, or other accessories.

LG's system incorporates capabilities for high-quality imaging in low-light conditions and over a high dynamic range, ensuring consistent monitoring across varying environmental conditions and times of day.

According to the companies, the technology is designed to help automotive manufacturers meet New Car Assessment Program and General Safety Regulation standards.

"The combination of LG's highly accurate and reliable in-cabin solutions with the industry-leading AI performance per watt of our CVflow SoCs is enabling automotive OEMs to achieve the highest vehicle safety levels," said Fermi Wang, President and CEO of Ambarella.

LG has also joined Ambarella's innovation ecosystem for automotive systems.

The company plans to expand its partnership to develop additional in-cabin solutions, including Interior Monitoring Systems and Driver and Interior Monitoring Systems.

The companies will showcase their latest in-cabin solution during CES 2025, demonstrating their continued commitment to advancing vehicle safety technology.
