Seoul, South Korea - LG Display (034220. KS) has unveiled the world's first stretchable display that can expand up to 50%, marking a significant advancement in free-form screen technology.

The company demonstrated the 12-inch display, which can stretch to 18 inches, at LG Science Park in Seoul. It features full RGB color capability and 100 pixels per inch resolution.

The prototype represents a major improvement over the company's 2022 version, doubling the maximum elongation rate from 20% to 50%.

LG Display achieved the breakthrough by enhancing silicon material substrate properties and developing a new wiring design structure.

The display can withstand over 10,000 stretch cycles and maintains performance in extreme temperatures.

The micro-LED technology with light sources of up to 40 micrometers ensures durability and consistent image quality under different conditions.

The company showcased potential applications, including automotive panels and wearable displays for firefighters' uniforms, highlighting the technology's versatility across industries.

"We will continue to build a sustainable future display ecosystem through close cooperation between South Korean industry, academia, and research stakeholders," said Soo-young Yoon, CTO and Executive Vice President of LG Display.

This development emerges from a national project initiated in 2020, where LG Display leads collaboration with 19 domestic industry and research institutes under South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
