Tokyo, Japan - LINE Yahoo and Demae-can announced the launch of "Yahoo! Quick Mart," a service delivering fresh food and daily necessities in as little as 30 minutes.

The service will initially cover the Minato, Shibuya, and Shinjuku wards and will expand nationwide within the year.

Orders can be placed through the Yahoo! Shopping app or smartphone browser, with users earning 1% PayPay points on eligible purchases.

Delivery personnel from Demae-can will pick up items from partnered stores, including Lawson, Maruetsu, and Picard.

The companies aim to add more stores and product categories, including pharmaceuticals.

The move comes as demand for quick commerce grows in Japan, driven by changing consumer habits and an aging population facing food access issues.

According to government data, an estimated 9.04 million people over 65 struggled with grocery shopping in 2020.

LINEYahoo and Demae-can plan to leverage their customer base and last-mile delivery network to expand the service.

The companies will discontinue their previous dark store-based "Yahoo! Mart by ASKUL" service at the end of August.

To promote the launch, Yahoo! Quick Mart is offering a JPY 919 discount coupon for first-time users until August 31, with additional point-based campaigns planned.
