Seoul, South Korea – Naver Cloud has introduced Cloud DB Serverless, a database service that automatically scales computing resources based on demand, eliminating the need for manual infrastructure management.

The service moves from a traditional virtual machine-based managed database model to a container-based serverless architecture.

An auto-scaling function adjusts CPU, memory, and storage resources in response to real-time data traffic.

Billing is usage-based, which Naver Cloud says eliminates fixed costs associated with over-provisioning—a common practice in standard virtual machine models to accommodate sudden traffic spikes.

The product targets enterprises looking to reduce infrastructure costs as operational expenses rise.

According to Naver Cloud, the service leverages the company’s existing servers, networks, storage, and Kubernetes technology.

Cloud DB Serverless incorporates two proprietary patents: one for optimizing real-time, usage-based database backups, and another for automated server resource allocation to maintain stability while minimizing costs.

A Naver Cloud representative noted that the service complies with South Korean cloud and data regulations.

Naver Cloud plans to expand Cloud DB Serverless to more public cloud regions and broaden support for open-source databases.
