PANGYO, South Korea—South Korean gaming giant NCSOFT (036570. KS) announced a $3.5 million seed investment in Swedish game studio Moon Rover Games, marking the company's first step in a global expansion strategy.

Moon Rover Games, founded in 2022 by former EA DICE developers with experience in renowned first-person shooter (FPS) franchises, is developing a cooperative FPS codenamed "Project Aldous" for PC and consoles.

NCSOFT, the sole investor in this round, aims to establish a long-term partnership with Moon Rover Games, including discussions on publishing rights and future collaborations.

The investment is part of NCSOFT's broader strategy to diversify its game portfolio and expand its global market presence.

The company is actively exploring investments in both domestic and overseas companies to enhance growth and profitability.

Byungmoo Park, co-CEO of NCSOFT, stated that the company is searching for studios with specialized genre expertise and strong development capabilities.

He added that NCSOFT plans to announce several new initiatives in August, including an investment in a Korean game studio and a joint business plan to enter the Southeast Asian market.

Julien Wera, CEO of Moon Rover Games, described the investment as a milestone enabling the studio to combine its ambitions with NCSOFT's online game development and operations expertise.
