Hanoi, Vietnam- NVIDIA (NVDA.O) announced on Monday the opening of its first research and development center in Vietnam, marking a significant expansion of its presence in Southeast Asia's rapidly growing technology sector.

The U.S. chip designer said the new Vietnam Research and Development Center will concentrate on software development, leveraging the country's STEM engineering talent pool.

This center, part of NVIDIA's global strategy, will play a crucial role in advancing the company's AI and software development capabilities.

NVIDIA's facility aims to support AI innovation across various sectors, including healthcare, education, transportation, and finance, the company said in a statement.

Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed that the partnership with NVIDIA aligns strategically with the government's focus on innovation as a key development strategy.

This reassures the public of the government's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for technological advancement.

The company has maintained involvement in Vietnam's technology ecosystem for eight years, engaging with more than 100 AI startups through its Inception program.

This program, which provides resources, mentorship, and technical support to startups, has been instrumental in nurturing the local AI ecosystem.

NVIDIA has also partnered with 65 universities, further demonstrating its commitment to fostering talent in the region.

NVIDIA initiated its cloud services presence in Vietnam last year by collaborating with FPT Smart Cloud, its first Vietnamese cloud partner.

This expansion comes at a time when Vietnam's AI market is on the rise, thanks to technological advancements and increased government support.

Since 2021, the country has been actively promoting AI development as part of its digital transformation strategy, paving the way for a promising future in the tech sector.

Vietnam has emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing economies, with significant manufacturing expansion in technology, automotive, electronics, and textiles.
