Seoul, South Korea - PhotoRoom expands into the South Korean market.

Who they are.

Founded in 2019, this Paris-based French startup makes AI-powered photo editing software.

Their flagship mobile app, which removes backgrounds and enhances photos, has been downloaded more than 100 million times worldwide.

They have $19.1 million in cumulative secured investments, including Balderton Capital, Y Combinator, and Adjacent.

The company was founded by CEO Matthieu Rouif, who previously led photo products at GoPro and Replay, and CTO Eliot Andres, a machine learning expert.

Their team has grown to over 50 employees.

What makes PhotoRoom different

PhotoRoom's app offers both free and paid subscriptions for individuals and businesses.

It uses AI, specifically Core ML, to enable fast and accurate background removal, photo retouching, and creative editing.

A case study with Warner Bros. demonstrated the commercial potential of PhotoRoom.

By integrating the software into a Barbie movie promotion, Warner generated a high volume of user-generated social posts and 13 million shares.

What comes next:

Industry accolades include App of the Year from Google and Editor's Choice from Apple.

As adoption grows, PhotoRoom is looking to develop its AI photo technologies further.
