Tokyo, Japan - Rakuten has partnered with Earth Hacks to launch a dedicated shopping page displaying carbon reduction scores for sustainable products on its EARTH MALL with the Rakuten platform.

The new page, which went live on November 22, features products with "Decarbo Score," a metric developed by Earth Hacks that indicates carbon dioxide emission reduction rates compared to conventional products and methods.

The initiative is supported by Japan's Ministry of Environment's fiscal year 2024 supplementary budget for CO2 emission reduction projects, specifically under the "Deco Katsu" promotion program.

Rakuten will showcase products made from plant-based materials, refillable containers, and food waste, each displaying its respective Decarbo Score to help consumers make environmentally conscious purchasing decisions.

The companies will launch a promotional campaign from December 23, 2024, to January 27, 2025, offering to distribute one million Rakuten points among customers who purchase Decarbo Score-labeled products through the dedicated page.

Earth Hacks introduced the Decarbo Score system in July 2022, and as of October 2024, more than 350 companies and brands had adopted the metric.

The EARTH MALL with Rakuten platform operates as both an internet shopping mall and an online media platform, focusing on sustainable products that have obtained environmental certifications.

Both companies stated they will continue to expand their environmental product offerings to provide more sustainable choices to consumers.

The dedicated page can be accessed through Rakuten's EARTH MALL platform. The point distribution campaign is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on December 23, 2024.
