Seoul, South Korea - Samsung Electronics has signed a strategic technology partnership with Hyundai Motor and Kia to integrate Samsung's SmartThings Internet of Things (IoT) platform with the automakers' software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

The companies aim to enhance users' connectivity experiences by enabling features like vehicle location tracking using Samsung Galaxy devices, even without a cellular network connection.

Drivers can also control in-car systems like air conditioning from their smartphones.

The partnership will include AI-based services tailored to customer preferences, such as in-vehicle health monitoring and pet care solutions that optimize animal-vehicle environments.

This agreement builds on a collaboration announced in January focusing on home-to-car and car-to-home services that connect smartphones, vehicles, and home appliances.

"Our goal is to enrich Hyundai Motor and Kia customers' mobility experience by offering personalized services beyond transportation," said Chang Song, President of Hyundai Motor Group's Advanced Vehicle Platform Division.

According to Paul Cheun, president and CTO of Samsung Electronics' Device Experience Division, the companies plan to continue developing the SmartThings ecosystem to offer new lifestyle solutions to more customers.
