Samsung Electronics (KRX: 005930) unveiled the Samsung Health Stack 1.0 at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2023 conference in Chicago, aiming to transform digital health research.

Developed by Samsung Research and Samsung Research America, the open-source project enables researchers to efficiently build apps, backend servers, and analytics tools for wearable devices running on Android and Wear OS operating systems.

Rapid advances in smartphones and wearables can potentially revolutionize healthcare research and the development of data-driven biomarkers.

However, medical researchers often need help creating new mobile health applications and services, resulting in a significant investment of time and resources.

The Samsung Health Stack is designed to address these issues by streamlining the process of building systems and allowing researchers to focus on their work.

Yunsu Lee, Vice President and Head of the Data Intelligence Team at Samsung Electronics, said that the Samsung Health Stack would lower the barriers between medical researchers and digital technology experts, fostering innovation in the digital health sector.

The Samsung Health Stack simplifies data collection for researchers studying diabetes and hypertension through its web portal.

Applications developed using the App SDK can improve communication between researchers and participants, resulting in better research outcomes.

This streamlined process can empower researchers to conduct more diverse and proactive healthcare projects, benefiting consumers’ health.

Samsung Health Stack 1.0 is scheduled for release in June, following the unveiling of the alpha version at the Samsung Developer Conference 2022 and the release of the beta version in March.

The updated version offers enhanced research management tools and improved usability, allowing researchers to focus on research design while providing relevant information to participants.
