Seoul, South Korea—SK Hynix Inc (000660. KS) on Friday announced the development of PCB01, a solid-state drive (SSD) optimized for on-device artificial intelligence (AI) PCs.

Mass production is planned by the end of the year.

The PCB01 is the first to use fifth-generation, 8-channel PCIe technology to deliver sequential read and write speeds of 14GB and 12GB per second.

These speeds enable the operation of large language models for AI training and inference in seconds.

According to SK hynix, the new SSD improves power efficiency by more than 30% compared to the previous generation, increasing stability for large-scale AI computing tasks.

The product also features SLC caching for faster performance and a root-of-trust security solution to protect personal data.

The company is currently undergoing a validation process with a global PC customer and plans to offer the PCB01 in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

Ahn Hyun, head of the N-S Committee at SK Hynix, said that many global CPU suppliers for on-device AI PCs request cooperation for compatibility validation.

The company aims to strengthen its position as the world's top AI memory supplier for NAND solutions.

SK Hynix expects this advancement in NAND solutions to complement its success in high-performance DRAM, particularly its High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products, and strengthen its position in the overall AI memory market.
