Tokyo, Japan—SoftBank Corp announced on Thursday that it will release Japan's first Wi-Fi 7 compatible home router, the "Air Terminal 6," in late November.

The router will offer 5G speeds of up to 2.7 Gbps in limited areas.

The company said that the new router, part of SoftBank's "SoftBank Air" internet service, will be the first Wi-Fi 7 home router from a major Japanese mobile network operator.

SoftBank will offer Air Terminal 6 at a monthly fee of JPY 4,950 ($34.66) for the first 48 months, increasing to JPY 5,368 from the 49th month onwards.

The device features a high-performance chipset from MediaTek Inc. and supports multi-link operation for improved communication stability with Wi-Fi 7-compatible smartphones.

SoftBank stated that the 2.7 Gbps speed is available only in a limited area in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture, and plans to expand coverage.

The company is also launching a campaign allowing customers who purchased the previous model, Air Terminal 5, to upgrade to the new device without effectively paying off the remaining balance on their old device.

SoftBank aims to enhance its home internet offerings with this latest release, leveraging the growing demand for high-speed home connectivity.
