Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation (SONY.N) has announced the acquisition of KinaTrax Inc., a markerless motion capture technology provider for sports, to strengthen its sports data analytics capabilities.

The acquisition will integrate KinaTrax's biomechanical analysis technology with Sony's Hawk-Eye Innovations subsidiary, which provides officiating and broadcast solutions for sports events.

KinaTrax's motion capture systems are currently deployed in over 75 stadiums and laboratories across Major League Baseball (MLB), Minor League Baseball (MiLB), and NCAA organizations.

The deal is intended to expand Sony's sports data offerings for athletes, teams, and leagues, particularly in coaching, scouting, and performance analysis.

"This acquisition allows us to broaden our proposition through new biomechanical insights in the critical and growing field of player performance," said Rufus Hack, CEO of Hawk-Eye, Pulselive, and Beyond Sports.
