Tokyo, Japan — Sony Group Corporation announced the first closing of Sony Innovation Fund 4 L.P., its latest corporate venture capital vehicle.

The fund began operations in April 2026 under the management of Sony Ventures Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary.

The initial closing included participation from MUFG Bank, Ltd., Development Bank of Japan Inc., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sony Bank Inc., and Sony Group.

Sony Ventures Corporation said it is recruiting additional limited partners to reach a final fund size of JPY 20 billion or more.

If the fund reaches its target, total assets under management across the Sony Innovation Fund platform would surpass JPY 85 billion.

The launch comes as the original Sony Innovation Fund, established in 2016, marks its 10th anniversary.

Over the past decade, Sony Group has expanded its venture capital operations, launching the Innovation Growth Fund in 2019 and Sony Innovation Fund 3 in 2022 to target mid- to later-stage companies.

The corporation also operates sector-specific funds, including one launched in 2020 focused on global environmental challenges and another in 2023 dedicated to African entertainment businesses.
