Sejong, South Korea—The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a national initiative to establish an artificial intelligence computing center through public-private collaboration.

The action plan, presented at the Ministerial Meeting on National Affairs and Economic Affairs on January 22, outlines the systematic development of critical AI infrastructure.

The National AI Computing Center will be established through a Special Purpose Corporation funded jointly by the public and private sectors.

Additional funding will be secured through policy-based financial instruments and loan programs.

The center will focus on expanding the availability of advanced graphics processing units for AI research and development across industries, academia, and research institutions.

The facility will integrate domestically developed neural processing units and processing-in-memory devices to drive early adoption of local AI semiconductor technology.

The government has implemented expedited power system impact assessments for the center's operations.

To encourage private investment, the ministry is also pursuing the designation of AI technology as a national strategic technology under the Act on Restriction on Special Cases Concerning Taxation.

Project proposals are being accepted from January 23 to May 30, 2025.

Eligible participants include domestic and international cloud service providers, data center operators, telecommunications companies, and AI-related enterprises.

To receive the full request for proposal documentation, interested organizations must submit a Letter of Intent to Participate by February 28 at 17:00.

The ministry will host an information session on February 7 from 14:00 to 16:00 at the International Conference Room, Bank Hall in Seoul's Myeong-dong district.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency websites will provide additional project details.
