Las Vegas, NV—Toyota Motor Corporation (7203).T) announced on Tuesday that Phase 1 of the construction of its experimental mobility test course, Toyota Woven City, has been completed.

The course is planned to launch operations in the fall of 2025 or shortly thereafter.

The project, located at the former site of Toyota Motor East Japan's Higashi-Fuji Plant in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, completed construction in October 2024.

The initial phase encompasses approximately 50,000 square meters of the planned 708,000 square meters.

The facility has already secured Japan's first LEED for Communities Platinum certification, the highest rank in the U.S. Green Building Council's environmental performance evaluation system, awarded in March 2023.

Toyota has confirmed partnerships with several major Japanese corporations for the project.

Daikin Industries will test pollen-free spaces and personalized environments, while DyDo DRINCO will explore innovative vending machine concepts.

NISSIN FOOD PRODUCTS plans to evaluate new food environments, UCC Japan will develop futuristic cafe experiences, and Zoshinkai Holdings will focus on data-driven educational methods.

The automaker expects approximately 100 initial residents, primarily Toyota and Woven by Toyota staff and their families, to occupy the facility at launch.

Phase 1 accommodates around 360 residents, with plans to expand to approximately 2,000 residents across all stages.

Public access will initially be restricted to related parties.

General public participation in co-creation activities will begin in fiscal year 2026 or later.

The company also plans to launch an accelerator program for external startups, entrepreneurs, universities, and research institutions starting in the summer of 2025.

Construction preparations for Phase 2 are underway, and a former plant facility is being converted into a manufacturing hub for the project.

The company says insights from Phase 1 will inform subsequent development phases.

The project represents Toyota's broader transformation into a mobility company, first announced at CES 2018.

The facility will serve as a testing ground for innovations in transportation, focusing on the movement of people, goods, information, and energy.
