Samsung, MediaTek Breakthrough: Fastest Mobile DRAM Unveiled

Seoul, South Korea - Samsung Electronics and MediaTek have completed validation of the industry's fastest 10.7 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) LPDDR5X DRAM for use in MediaTek's next-generation Dimensity platform.

The validation was conducted using Samsung's 16-gigabyte LPDDR5X package on MediaTek's upcoming Dimensity 9400 System on Chip (SoC), set for release in the second half of 2024. 

The companies completed the verification process in three months.

Samsung's new LPDDR5X DRAM offers over 25% improvement in power consumption and performance compared to its predecessor. 

This advancement enables longer battery life and enhanced on-device AI capabilities for mobile devices.

YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, stated that the company will continue to innovate by collaborating with customers to provide solutions for the on-device AI era.

JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek, highlighted that the cooperation will enable upcoming devices to deliver unprecedented AI functionality and mobile performance.

The companies expect this technological advancement to expand beyond mobile applications to servers, PCs, and automotive devices, particularly in the growing on-device AI market.
