Tokyo, Japan - Rakuten Group's online bookstore, Rakuten Books, introduced a new delivery method called "Matsutoku" on Monday for customers who don't need urgent package delivery.

The "Matsutoku" option uses Japan Post's Yu-Mail service, taking several days longer than standard delivery methods.

Customers selecting this option will receive 10 Rakuten points per shipment.

The service applies mainly to in-stock items that can fit in a mailbox.

Users can choose "Matsutoku" during checkout if available for their order. Payment is limited to credit cards.

Rakuten Books aims to improve user convenience and address logistics industry challenges, including the "2024 logistics problem" related to truck driver shortages.

The company has previously offered next-day delivery and convenience store pickup options.

The new service is part of Rakuten's broader efforts to reduce redeliveries and improve e-commerce logistics efficiency through expanded delivery and pickup options.

As of May 2024, Rakuten Books had over 1.7 million products and 3.3 million items in stock, including books, magazines, DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and games.

The company plans to continue enhancing its services by selling books and other media products to improve user convenience.
