Samsung unveils glasses-free 3D gaming monitor at Gamescom 2024

COLOGNE, Germany—Samsung Electronics (005930. KS) introduced its new Odyssey 3D gaming monitor, which features glasses-free 3D viewing, at Gamescom 2024.

The Odyssey 3D uses light field display technology with a lenticular lens to create 3D images from 2D content.

It incorporates Eye Tracking and View Mapping technology to optimize the 3D experience without requiring special glasses.

The monitor, available in 27-inch and 37-inch sizes, offers 4K resolution, 1 ms gray-to-gray response time, and a 165Hz refresh rate.

It can switch between 2D and 3D modes based on user preference.

At Gamescom, Samsung is showcasing the Odyssey 3D alongside other gaming monitors from its Odyssey G6, G8, and G9 series.

The company also announced an expansion of its Odyssey OLED lineup, introducing three new models: the G95SD, G93SD, and G85SD.

These monitors range from 27 to 49 inches and feature high refresh rates and low response times.

Samsung has held the top global gaming monitor market for five consecutive years.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC) data, in Q1 2024, it captured a 20.6% global market share and led the European market with a 24.2% revenue share.

The new Odyssey 3D and OLED models are expected to be available globally within the year, with launch schedules varying by country.
