SK hynix Invests $6.79B in Yongin Semiconductor Cluster

Seoul, South Korea- SK hynix Inc. (000660. KS) said its board approved a KRW 9.4 trillion (US$6.79 billion) investment for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster.

The investment covers the construction of the first fabrication plant and auxiliary facilities at the cluster site in Gyeonggi Province.

Construction of the first fab is set to begin in March 2025 and finish in May 2027. The company plans to produce next-generation DRAM, including High Bandwidth Memory, at the facility.

SK hynix aims to build four advanced fabs and a semiconductor cooperation complex at the 4.15 million square meter site.

The approved investment also includes business support buildings and welfare facilities, and the investment period is planned from August 2024 to the end of 2028.

The company said it will provide a "mini-fab" for small businesses to develop and test technologies.
