Seoul, South Korea - SK hynix (000660: KS) announced the introduction of GDDR7, its next-generation graphics memory product, claiming it as the industry's best-performing.

The new GDDR7 boasts a 60% improvement in operating speed and a 50% enhancement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor.

SK hynix plans to commence mass production in the third quarter of 2024.

With an operating speed of 32Gbps, expandable to 40Gbps, the GDDR7 can process data equivalent to 300 Full-HD movies in one second when used with high-end graphics cards.

SK Hynix addressed potential heat issues caused by ultra-fast data processing by adopting new packaging technology.

The company increased the number of heat-dissipating substrate layers from four to six and applied Epoxy Molding Compound (EMC) as packaging material, reducing thermal resistance by 74% while maintaining the product's size.

Sangkwon Lee, Head of DRAM Product Planning & Enablement at SK hynix, said GDDR7 is expected to be adopted in applications including high-specification 3D graphics, AI, high-performance computing, and autonomous driving.

The development of GDDR7 in March followed growing customer interest in DRAM products that meet both specialized performance for graphics processing and high speed, particularly in the AI sector.
